The Lost Handheld Tales

Purpose:

Creating a Multimedia Fusion 2 game in 24 hours that involved mini-games for Clickjam Fall 2013

Description of Game:

Collection of Mini-Games that must be beaten within a time limit (akin to WarioWare)

Team Setup:

2 Programmers, 2 Artists, 1 Sound Engineer

My Role:
Team Lead / Programmer

Tools I Used:

Multimedia Fusion 2, Dropbox

My Contribution to the Project:

Assembled the team, Led brainstorming sessions, Managed the team throughout to keep people on track if they weren't sure what to do, Kept people on schedule to make sure we had a polished product by our deadline, Integrated art, sound, and script assets, Fully programmed and designed half of the levels.

Thoughts on the Project:

I always enjoy making small games with Multimedia Fusion 2 simply because the tool may not be powerful, but it is fast and stable once you know how to use it.

When we were informed that the project had to be a collection of minigames, we knew they had to be quick, simple, and funny to achieve success. It didn't take us long to design out a bunch of crazy levels that wouldn't be hard to program and polish.

I had a great time working with the team to develop this game, as everyone got to pitch in some fun ideas and work on whatever they chose to. We got a lot of laughter out of developing the game, as well as playing it, which was our entire goal.

Speaking of polish, despite how small and silly this game is, I actually am extremely proud of this game, as I consider it probably the most polished game I have ever worked on. Not polished in the sense that the game had lots of features or advanced graphics, but in the sense that we completely achieved our target for the game, had in all of the features we wanted to have, and everything looked, sounded, and played exactly as intended. It is the only game I have ever made that I do not feel a need to go back and touch up (which is always the game developers curse, never feeling finished). So in that regard, I am excited and happy to have made this game.
